Welcome to my Neurospicy Parenting Blog!

Welcome to my Neurospicy Parenting Blog! This is my space to write about how our Neurospicy family works. I've seen a lot of resources and experiences about folks with younger kids, and lately lots of adults who have just been dragged kicking and screaming into 2025 and all of the neuro-awareness. Perhaps it's because I haven't researched much, perhaps it's because I like writing and relate to it well, but this is my space to sort through both my own issues and parenting issues of a late teen family.

I never imagined before that my culture shock would be this big. Up until late 2024/early 2025, I felt like I'd been decently up on what the hip (yes, full irony) kids are up to. I have 2 daughters - 1 is 21 and in the US studying business, 2 is 17 and still at home. All of this sudden world awareness on neurodifferences coincided a few years after 2 was diagonised with Adhd, and we suspect Auhdhd. Is that the right term? A mix of Adhd and Autism.

I want to say clearly and unequivacably that this blog is only indicative of our experiences. I'm not an expert on anything in the mental health field - I only have my own experiences. This blog will be mainly my thoughts, I don't wish to speak for either of my daughters. I also am not mocking, denegrating, or otherwise trying to belittle anyone's experience, diagnosis, mental favor or anything else. It's a place to process what can be a challenging process. Mental health is hard, yo. It can be frustrating, joyful, useful, and devastating. Sometimes all in the same day.

If you have similar stories to share, resources you've found to be helpful, or a constructive addition of knowledge to the conversation, I'd love for you to leave comments or interact. If you're going to be a dick, patronizing, or nasty, please go away. I'll probably not respond, and I assure you I probably won't even blink at what you've said. We're not PG-13 around here so if swearing or open conversations bother you, this isn't the place for you either.

Here's to being weird. Keep it spicy.

~Becky~
